Very much a frontier province like Yunnan to the North-West, Guangxi is known for its warm, tropical climate, its rivers and scenic beauty.

A large proportion of the people are of Zhuang minority descent and this is the remain reason that it has 'autonomous' province status within China. The Zhuang dialect has strong links with the Thai language.

Guilin is justly famous for its beautifully majestic peaks of limestone jutting out of the plains. The Li River that links Guilin and Yangshou has great scenic beauty.
