Note that this character is only used for counting, in other situations you need to use 'liang', this is similar to English where we tend to say 'couple of' instead of 'two of' but it is obligatory in Chinese. The pronunciation is quite tricky for English speakers, it is nothing like the word 'err' and is closer to the end of the sound attributed to country rustics 'Ooo Argh!'
