Sounds more like 'yow' than 'you'

The character is believed to be derived from the pictogram of a hand grasping a piece of meat (rou). As the marks for 'meat' and 'moon' are somewhat similar over the years the character has changed to that of a hand grasping the moon.

mén yǒu shí běn shū
wo : I men : s you : have; possess shi : 10; Ten ben : root; book shu : book
I [plural] have ten [of] books = we have ten books
