Paddy Fields

Green rice seedlings in early spring in Baoting County, Mt. Wuzhi, Hainan Island. The area has high temperatures, sufficient rainfall and remains frost-free suitable for growing many types of crop. Hainan Island (1981).

The area is home to people of Li and Miao ethnic nationalities.

Contrary to popular belief rice is not the staple crop all over China, in the North wheat is mainly grown, it is in the more tropical south with plentiful rainfall that rice is grown. In a good year multiple crops of rice can be harvested.
