Tianjin is the largest industrial city of northern China. Situated on the coast close to Beijing it has been the natural place for a port to thrive on trade to China from the Ming dynasty onwards.

It's difficult to compare to a city in the U.K. as London is both the capital and a port.

The province is a mainly urban area with a total population similar to London. Its many industries include engineering, chemical processing and metalwork.
