The mountainous province of Yunnan (Southern Cloud) Province marks the SouthWestern bulwark of China. Part of the Nanzhou kingdom up until the 13th century it is still ethnically diverse but much more like China than Tibet.
It has number of natural beauty spots such as the Stone Forest (Shi Lin) and Dali.
A British film made the small town of Lijiang famous in 1994 with Beyond the Clouds
